Internet Explorer 6 is Past
20.09.10
Internet Explorer 6 will soon be history as the version of Internet Explorer 8 is the most popular browser with Firefox coming next.
According to the company StatCounter, Internet Explorer 6 from Microsoft is now really a relic of the past, with less than 5% market share in the U.S. and Europe.
For years, Internet Explorer 6 caused headaches for developers and programmers that existed in the area of security and has prompted many users to switch to alternative browsers.
Since it was the default browser on many Windows computers, it was dominating the game with 90% market share in 2002 and 2003. It even managed to maintain a stable share of the market, after Internet Explorer 7 and 8.
However, now the use in the U.S. has declined by 4.7% from 11.5% in the last year, which means that Internet Explorer 6 starts declining.
For other browsers, Internet Explorer 8 appears to hold the reins well with 30.49% market share in the U.S., while behind follows Firefox 3,6 with 19,85% and finally Internet Explorer 7 with a market share 16.64%.
